FINALLY, my starter has begun to behave. It prefers the cooler weather.
betty crocker recipe card library. revisited.
Oh, how I love perusing vintage 50’s-70’s cookbooks. I pick them up involuntarily at yard sales and thrift shops. They are irresistible, beautiful, ridiculous, and for me, they also hold a bit of nostalgia.
In this feature from the 11/1/15 New York Times Magazine, “In Search of Lost Foods,” artists Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari capture the essence of Betty Crocker’s classic recipe cards, conveying an overt sense of absurdity in their imagery.
kcrw pie contest. 2015.
So, I finally decided (committed to) entering KCRW’s 7th annual Good Food Pie Contest at the Fowler Museum at UCLA on Sunday, October 4th, 2015. We didn’t win, but it was fun as hell.

First, I ordered (2) 10″ pie pans from amazon. Then I signed up for the contest online, paying the $15 entrance fee (last day of registration, of course). I was committed.

Tonight there was just extraordinary light. I managed to capture just the last few minutes by running out to my alley.
rainbow cake.
Once upon a time, we bought this rainbow cake mix.
west hollywood walk.
A few pics from a walk, with my friend Ed, in West Hollywood last week. After a most delicious Connecticut Style Lobster Roll (served warmed with butter and lemon on a toasty buttered bun) from Cousins Maine Lobster Restaurant. Heaven in a hot dog roll.
golf course cake.
Back in the day (circa 2010) I used to work with a great team of people on a website/iphone app, Golflink.com. We have stayed close friends, and for one of our most recent reunions, my daughter and I baked & decorated a golf course cake.
caramoor. in the garden of sonic delights. summer/fall 2014
Some pics from my visit to ‘In the Garden of Sonic Delights’— a series of sound installations scattered around the beautiful grounds at Caramoor, a former estate in Katonah, NY. Featuring my good friend, John Morton.
